Jim Grantner has served on SNMCAC’s Board of Directors since 2007, and currently serves as Board Secretary. Originally from Chicago, he moved to Carlsbad in 1975, where he attended his senior year of high school and then promptly went to work for the City of Carlsbad. He worked for the City for 25 years. Following his retirement, Jim became a caretaker to his mother, until her death two years later. Jim then went on to work as a volunteer for SNMCAC, and, from there, he became a very active volunteer throughout the community of Carlsbad and Eddy County. He continues to serve in this capacity today.
Jim was named Carlsbad’s Best Community Volunteer in 2004, a Carlsbad Unsung Hero in 2006 and again in 2010, and received a Carlsbad Character Counts Award in 2011. In addition to serving on SNMCAC’s Board of Directors, Jim currently serves as a Liaison to Carlsbad MainStreet, and sits on the Board of Directors for the following local organizations: Eddy County’s Council of Governments, New Mexico Financial Authority’s Colonias Infrastructure Program, Jonah’s House Food Pantry, the Carlsbad Literacy Program, and the New Beginnings Caring Pregnancy Center. Jim also serves on the Eddy County Planning and Zoning Commission and the City of Carlsbad Solid Waste Commission. Jim is a former member of the Carlsbad City Council, and a former Community Liaison as appointed by Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway.
Of his passion for service, Jim says, Besides my love for God and my family, my heart is very close in working on behalf of seniors, children, or those less fortunate in our community. The work that I have done in the past and the present as a board member of Southeast NM Community Action Corp. allows me to work in all of these areas and more. I am truly blessed to be a small part of this organization. Between my early years with Community Action together with my most recent years, I have worked with this great organization in one form or another for over 15 years.”
